The Parke at Ocean Pines Named Best Community for Second Time!

BURKE, VA. – September 19, 2005. Slenker Communities’s Central Parke 55+ Active Adult division, has another award to add to their growing portfolio. Their 55+ Resort Community near Ocean City, Maryland, The Parke at Ocean Pines, was named one of the “100 Best Master-Planned Communities” by Where to Retire magazine in their July/August issue. This is the second time The Parke received this recognition; the first time The Parke won this award was in 2003.

Where to Retire magazine began their biennial recognition of communities in 1999 and have witnessed a rapidly increasing growth in developments marketed to the empty nesters and retirees. Among the trends noticed are retirement communities reaching beyond the Sunbelt, an increase of developments in suburban and semirural areas and communities that preserve the natural habitat creating trails and parks.

According to Mr. Slenker, “More and more retirees are making the decision to live close to family and friends, rather than leave the area where they have roots. One trend is multigenerational communities where an Active Adult neighborhood is developed within a larger master-planned community with multiple generations like we created with The Parke and Central Parke at Lowes Island in Northern Virginia’s Cascades neighborhood. Many Active Adults are choosing to continue working or work part-time so they need to find a community close to where they have been living and working rather than “retiring” to the Sunbelt. We recognized this and have created 55+ communities that would meet this growing trend.”

Central Parke communities have a history of award recognition. The Parke was named The Environmental Community of The Year and received the prestigious, nationally recognized Finest for Family Living Award for being the Best Resort Community in the Mid-Atlantic region. Central Parke at Victoria Falls in Laurel, Maryland was awarded the Platinum Award for Best Community in the early development stages for Large Active Adult Community.

Central Parke Communities are known for their extraordinary lifestyle, highly desirable locations where residents can live close to family and friends, and extensive collection of homes built by some of the nation’s most respected builders. Parent company Slenker Communities, has also been named “Environmental Developer of the Year" and received Awards of Excellence for their planning and development. ###
