Laurel, MD ­ May 9, 2006. Slenker Communities, a developer of mixed-use, all-age and Active Adult 55+ communities, recently announced a donation of up to a quarter million dollars to All Together for Laurel Area Seniors (ATLAS). The developer is giving $125,000 now and pledged to match up to $125,000 in additional money raised by the community for a new senior center in Laurel, Maryland.

According to William T. Slenker, President of Slenker Communities, “This is the culmination of five years of hard work on the part of many people. I am so pleased that we can assist ATLAS in building a brand new facility to benefit the area’s seniors.”

The announcement was made at a press conference at Laurel’s Phelps Senior Citizens Center attended by top county officials, including County Executive Jack Johnson and County Council Chairman Tom Dernoga (District 1). As a result of an agreement signed by Prince George's County and Dimensions Healthcare, construction will begin on a $5.5 million, 22,000-square-foot senior center on the grounds of Laurel Regional Hospital. The center could be completed as early as January 2008.
